Wedding Fair Advice for Brides

If you are planning your Wedding you will know that the Wedding Fair season is about to happen upon us again between January to April. They’ll be the big exhibitions where you will get in some places over 100, or even 200 stalls, or they’ll be the smaller fairs at your local wedding venues and hotels.

Now they’re normally all held on a Sunday, so it’s a question of how can you make the most of it without feeling like you’ve wasted a Sunday.

Choosing a Fair

Choosing which Wedding Fair you go to can be hard, especially if you are in the early stages of planning your Wedding as you will want to go to every one. And you can get a little bombarded with everything.
If you haven’t yet chosen your Date or Venue, go to the smaller Wedding Fairs as this will enable you to have a look around the venue, and they normally have rooms set out to show how your room could look if you were married there.
If you have your Date, but haven’t got any of the main suppliers, go to local ones, and maybe a bigger one, even if its only local. This will give you the chance to view different local suppliers, that will know your venue, or will even travel. Make sure you tell the suppliers, when you are getting married straight away (if they don’t ask) to make sure they are available for your date as some suppliers, photographers especially, only shoot one wedding per day.

Advice for the Day

Do you have your budget?
Make sure you take a notebook as this will give you the time to jot down and make notes. Suppliers are only a telephone call or an email away, but sometimes its nice to have the information to hand straight away. In the notebook, give each aspect of your wedding a separate page (or two) and write down each supplier budgets. And stick to them. If you cannot stick to them make sure you can cut back from else where in the wedding.

Ask questions. And more questions.
Fairs are for you to ask questions to find what you need. Ask how much they charge, whether VAT is included, how many meetings you have before the wedding. In your notebook write down questions you want to ask each supplier, and make sure you ask them all if you can. Sometimes with the larger fairs (and even the smaller ones) you could be stood waiting to speak with the supplier, so make sure you are prepared to wait. If you do just take some of their literature, make sure you email or call them with your list of questions.

Take someone with you.
Most fairs are free. Some of the larger ones are charged but this is normally a small amount (although the larger ones can get up to £6 or £8 per person, but the bride goes free). You generally get a goodie bag to take home with you, as well as some freebies, and lots of information from suppliers.
So who to take? Take your Mum, your best friend, even your other half! But make sure whoever you go with wants to be there. You may be there for an hour, or even several, with the larger ones expect to be there all day. Also remember this if you are taking children with you.

Dress comfortably.
You will do a lot of walking around, especially at the bigger fairs, and normally they’re on hard floors. If you don’t wear heels on a daily basis (and sometimes even if you do) wear comfortable shoes! Remember when its cold outside, the venues wont be cold so make sure you bring a coat, or leave it in the car!

Address.
A lot of suppliers will use special offers, free prize draw, or ask you to fill in an enquiry form. You could visit 20 stalls, and have to fill it in for everyone. So how about stickers! Return address stickers are cheap, and take these with you, and you can just stick these to your forms instead!! Check out here for some ideas of where to get them.

Only visit what you need to.
As with whether or not you have your date booked. Don’t spend lots of time looking or speaking with someone if you already have their service booked. You are wasting your time, as well as the suppliers.

Enjoy it!
Where else will you get to view lots of suppliers and speak with them on the same day!
Get ideas and inspiration for your Wedding and just enjoy!
