[Family] Lewis

Lewis' Mummy booked in their session, a few months before it took place.
They wanted a weekend and it seemed forever from her booking to coming for their session. Little Lewis however was just adorable! Their session was timed with visiting family in Barnsley, as they had travelled all the way from Norfolk the day before!

[Baby] Issac's Newborn Session

When I had a call from Issac’s mummy, I must have been having my busiest week of newborns and sessions ever. However, she had been referred from another photographer who couldn’t fit them in, and wondered if I could before all of Issac’s lovely hair was shaved off.

I managed to fit him in on an afternoon session, normally most little babies are better sleepers in a morning, however with Issac being 4 weeks old, we were able to risk the afternoon session.

He was just utterly beautiful, and I don’t often get broody, but this was one of those times that I did! He was 8 weeks early and weighed just 5lbs when he came to see me. And he was a dream to photograph!

[FAQ] Information for Newborn Sessions

Planning a newborn session can be a little bit of a daunting idea – however, remember to ask questions, get plenty of information and then moving forward you are prepared to get the best newborn pictures from your session.

Here are some of the most frequently asked questions.

What should baby wear?

The majority of the newborn sessions at Blue Lights Photography, are done whilst they are naked.
I normally suggest to bring them in a sleepsuit/romper suit so there isn’t any elastic marks etc on babies skin.
In the studio we have a lot of props, baskets, blankets – so do not worry about getting things getting wee’d and poo’d on!

Do I need to bring my own props?
Unless it is something which is sentimental to you – then no – you do not need to bring your own props.
If you like something on our website, or facebook page, then let us know beforehand as I will be able to inform you if I have that prop available.

How should I prep baby?
There isn’t much things that you have to do for prepping baby for their newborn session.
If the baby has dry skin, try and avoid using any type of oil or lotion on it, as this can make baby shiny, and shine is harder to work with than dry skin.

Make sure babies belly is full – even if it means trying to time a feed for when you arrive at the studio.
Full tummy babies are happy sleepy babies, and this is the best type to make sure we get the cute squishy photographs!

If your little one does wake at any point – then as long as baby is happy, and settled, then we will get some awake shots too.

How long do sessions last?
We always work at babies pace – so sometimes sessions will not always last the same amount of time.
Every baby is different, and we have to take feed’s and cuddles into consideration.
Sessions tend to last between 2 and 4 hours.

[Baby] Newborn Ashton

I was first introduced to Leigh's little family when her eldest was 6 months old. Since then I have had the pleasure of photographing many of their moments, including Cakey Baby and Newborn Sessions.

I always feel that I have done a good job, when my customers do not only just come back for one child, or one session - but they use me to show off their family milestones!

Don't the girls look so CUTE! One at just gone 2, one at just gone 1, and then little baby boy Ashton!

[Baby] Eva's Newborn Session

I first "met" Eva when she was still inside her mummy's tummy. And after she almost decided she didnt want to come out she was served her eviction notice and then came to see me for her photoshoot.

Little Eva didnt really want to sleep for long really, so we decided to keep her wrapped up and took some awake photographs of her. Just look how alert she is!

[Baby] Cake Smash Amelia

I first (tried) to photograph Amelia when she was a newborn. After she just screamed and almost hated her photograph being taken I wondered if she was going to be like her Mummy and Daddy who do not like their photographs taking (they were quite good at their wedding though!)

Amelia's Cake Smash was held the week after her Mummy and Daddy's wedding at my Barnsley Studio. And as normal - she was an absolutely and utter CUTIE!

The BEST thing about Cake Smash sessions - is that they are good fun - they are messy, and they create a good giggle. BUT it also means that I get all the mess which is the BEST thing about them - for YOU!

Amelia's Cake Smash Cake was covered in Yummy Strawberry frosting and it was super duper MESSY!

[Baby] Jack's 6 Month Session

I had the pleasure of first meeting Jack when he was just a tiny little newborn, and then his Mummy and Daddy decided to bring him back for his 6 month Session just as he had started sitting up.

Now with a full head of hair, a cheeky smile and lets not forget them awesome expressive eyebrows he was just a complete little cutie and totally won me over.

On of the best parts of being a photographer, is seeing all these cute children coming to see me at all these magical milestones and creating memories for them all!
